In December 2017, Vashti Harrison released her debut book entitled, Little Leaders: Bold Women in black history. It is a New York best selling book which 'introduces readers of all ages to 40 black women who changed the world.' Some of these women include: Chemist, Alice Ball, NASA astronaut, Mae Jemison, and Women's Right Activist, Sojourner Truth as well as several other great women!

Growing up, in school I was barely taught about the greatness of black history and to this day my knowledge of it is not at the level it should be or at least where I would like it to be. We were taught very limited information about the history of black people and the majority of it was based around suffering and hardship. There is so much more to our backgrounds than just slavery and I admire Harrison for placing black women as the focal point of this book. It will enable those us to expand our understanding of how black people have made significant contributions to society and more specifically, exposing our mind to the ways black women have offered their intelligence and creativity to this world.

Little Leaders: Bold Women in Black History is available to buy on Wordery.

Chemist, Alice Ball.
NASA Astronaut, Dr. Mae Jemison
