Book Review: A Rocky Start By Anthony Tucker

Tucker Says:
A Rocky Start gives you a brief glimpse into the life of a boy and how he decided to become the educator he is today. My hope is that this simple story will have a profound impact on the lives of many children.

I wouldn't normally review a typical 'boys' book as my aim is to review books that encourage a young female readership but you know what? It's okay for girls to read book with male lead. Reading a book with a male protagonist does not make you any less feminine! It is healthy for girls to read books from both male and female perspective.

I related with the young boy in a sense because for as long as I can remember I have been great at starting things but finishing has always been a struggle for me.
Don't start because it appears to be what is popular but do it because it is genuinely something you want to to whether it is picking up a hobby or taking part in a new activity.

It was interesting that the main character was never given a name. I understand that the story is based on the authors life but it would have been nice to for him to be acknowledged by his name.
I would have liked to have seen some bold  colours to accompany the illustrations however, the lack of colour may also  represent the bleakness and frustrations of the main characters life.

As children most of us have big dreams we wish to accomplish but sadly 'life' gets in the way and eventually many of us do not set out to do a lot of the things we initially said we would do. We do not want to go through life starting and never finishing. The story is a great example of how we should encourage children to seek out their passions and interest early on so that they have something to motivate them in life.

Often a lack of commitment be a result of underlying issues such as neglect and feelings of abandonment. When we spot signs of lack of commitment early on we can identify the issue and hopefully move on to resolve whatever issues may be at hand.

A Rocky Start is available to purchase on amazon now.
